Blackford District is located South of the centre of Edinburgh, starting at the Royal Mile and finishing at the the City Bypass. It is bounded on one side by Holyrood Park, and the other by the Meadows and Blackford Hill/The Braids. The district is named after the hill on which the famous Royal Observatory of Edinburgh sits. This is depicted on the District Badge. The District was established in August 1992 when the shrinking Salisbury and Liberton Districts were merged.
